Sailing… Finally

We left Quatsino to the fishermen. The strong southeast winds died, and gave way to light northwest winds that allowed us to motor sail and motor around the infamous Brooks Peninsula. Before rounding we saw a couple of beautiful Black Footed Albatross. Solander Island was a rugged and forbidding looking place, but from the smeĺl, home to many birds. We anchored at Nuchatlitz Marine Park for 3 nights, one more than planned due to inclement weather. Our dinghy hade a few inches of water in it in the morning… it rains here.

Today we had some beautiful downwind sailing with a poled out genoa for most of the trip past Estevan Point and into Clayoquot Sound. It really gave us a taste for the type of sailing we’ll be doing on an offshore passage, and the waves really kicked up around the point.

We’re now sitting in the smallest anchorage we’ve ever been in called Hootla Kootla Bay, with just enough room for two boats to swing… and we have cellular coverage!
