We’re seeing more convection clouds with the heat. So far they’ve been harmless, dissipating as it cools in the evening, but if this heat continues, eventually in the next few days they’re going to hit critical mass and form some thunder heads. We’ll want to be off the road before that time of day.

Camping du Lac Palinges is the nicest campground yet. The velo pitches are well sized and separated by shrubs. Each site has a picnic table and power to charge phones if needed.

The washrooms are clean and central in the campsite. The toilets have seats and toilet paper, and the hand wash area has soap and paper towels.

There are some nice campsites in France, but some have none of the things listed above. We really appreciate it when the operators put in the extra effort at these better campsites.

Oh, and the first load in the washing machine is free! 1 euro for the soap.

Inexplicably we were both dragging our butts today. Strange with such a short ride. A nice dinner at the campground bar and a good sleep, and hopefully we are refreshed tomorrow.

We had a fantastic meal served from the campground kitchen. The steak was served raw, on a hot piece of granite. A new experience for us, but apparently common in France. My meal was set down first with a blue steak on the granite slab. “This isn’t going to work for Chris” I think, she likes her steak medium rare. When I turned the steak over it was beautifully seared on the bottom, and immediately started to cook the other side. We could cut off slabs of steak and lay it on the granite, cooking it the desired amount. Every piece was hot and freshly cooked. Awesome! We topped off our meal with a bottle of red wine, and a chocolate and vanilla icecream combo for dessert. Our hostess spoke no english, and our French is… spotty but the atmosphere was always light and jovial. The total cost for a great experience, and I say experience because food in France is experienced, not just eaten, was 60 Euros.
